Cognition Education today announced the sale of its interest in global education business, Visible Learningplus to international professional learning company, Corwin for an undisclosed sum.
Visible Learningplus is a professional learning programme for educators based on the research of Melbourne University’s Professor John Hattie, a leading authority in global educational impact, and is the world’s largest evidence based school reform model.
Professor Hattie rose to prominence in the evidence-based school change movement with his meta-analyses of what works best for student achievement. The resulting Visible Learning research identifies 250 factors that influence student achievement based on a significant 1,400 meta-analyses of 90,000 individual research studies, involving more than 250 million students around the world. Cognition Education, a New Zealand based education company, partnered with Hattie in 2012, to establish Visible Learningplus and has since gone on to license the programme via strategic partners around the world. Through this global network, Cognition have delivered Visible Learningplus in 20+ countries across America, Canada, Europe, The Middle East and Australasia.
Tina Lucas, CEO of Cognition Education Group says, “We are immensely proud of the achievements of Visible Learningplus, not only the impact of our programme on student learning but also the growth we’ve achieved internationally. Cognition Education saw the potential to partner with Professor Hattie to co-develop an educational change programme that can accelerate student achievement and we are delighted Corwin with their experience and resources will continue our work to develop and expand the programme worldwide.”
The sale supports Cognition’s strategic objectives of growing their multi-business family using the collective expertise and experience within the dynamic NZ Group. With two relatively recent acquisitions including an Australian Early Years & Tutoring franchise Begin Bright and a Wellington based digital learning organisation, Wavelength, Cognition is turning their attention to the global expansion of these brands as well as its foundation business, Cognition Education, a global education consultancy company.
